PC setup

Extract the whole ZIP to a short local path without spaces, such as C:\DoomDeck (required by the firmware tools). Keep it together; do not run scripts inside the ZIP.

Install these tools once

Python 3.12, Windows x64, including the Python launcher.
Git for Windows.
Visual Studio Build Tools with Desktop development with C++, including MSVC, a Windows SDK and CMake.

Then double-click Setup PC.cmd. It creates a private Python environment, downloads pinned SDL libraries and engine sources, downloads the Doom 1.9 shareware archive, extracts its WAD without running the DOS installer, and builds the patched game. Leave the window open until it says PC setup complete. Downloads need internet access; play does not.

If you already have the original Doom 1.9 shareware WAD, use:

./Setup-PC.ps1 -Wad "C:/path/to/DOOM1.WAD"

Setup checks source and download hashes. It preserves edited source and saved games. If a download fails, rerun Setup. A hash mismatch stops setup; do not bypass it.

Next: install the board firmware once, choose your model, then use the two Play shortcuts described in README.md.

Quick checks

The first checks PC files without opening or flashing a board. The second shows the selected model and rotation. V1 uses 270 degrees; V2 uses 90 degrees. Choose model.cmd saves this setting for both play modes.

No main picture: use the large board’s USB port and a data-capable cable. Check logs/display.log. In PC-view mode, keep Doom unminimized.
Another session is running: close the previous Doom/Stand launcher first. This launcher leaves unrelated sessions alone.
No round-screen stats: check your board MAC assignments and shared wireless configuration in FIRMWARE.md. Visit http://127.0.0.1:8767 to check live game telemetry.
No controller response: connect it to the PC, use a controller recognised by SDL2, then reopen Play on Stand. Use Play on PC for keyboard/mouse.
Setup stopped: read the last error in its window. Confirm the C++ workload and Python 3.12 are installed. Setup never writes firmware.

All listeners are local to the PC. The main display uses the built-in Windows WinUSB driver; no desktop-display driver installation is needed.
